I'm back!
Yes my friends, more than a month ago since no illustration of the series "Royal Jewels", but the new protagonist well deserved time for reflection and due care.

Without delay, let me introduce you Mulan in a new edition of the "Royal Jewels":

The Ballad of Mulan was first transcribed in the Musical Records of Old and New (s 古今乐录, t 古今樂錄) in the 6th century, the century before the founding of the Tang Dynasty. The original work no longer exists, and the original text of this poem comes from another work known as the Music Bureau Collection (s 乐府诗, t 樂府詩), an anthology of lyrics, songs, and poems, compiled by Guo Maoqian during the 11th or 12th century. The author explicitly mentions the Musical Records of Old and New as his source for the poem. The poem is a ballad, meaning that the lines do not necessarily have equal numbers of syllables. The poem is mostly composed of five-character phrases, with just a few extending to seven or nine.

The story was expanded into a novel during the late Ming Dynasty (1368–1644). Over time, the story of Hua Mulan rose in popularity as a folk tale among the Chinese people on the same level as the Butterfly Lovers. It is one of the first poems in Chinese history to support the notion of gender equality.

He vuelto!!!
Sí amigos, ya sé que hace más de un mes que no hacía ninguna ilustración nueva de la serie "Joyas Reales", pero la nueva protagonista bien merecía un tiempo de reflexión y su debida dedicación.

Sin más dilación, os presento a Mulan en una nueva edición de las "Joyas Reales":

En la historia Mulan se disfraza de hombre para ocupar el lugar de su anciano padre en el ejército. Tras cumplir su servicio en el ejército, el Emperador le ofrece los más altos honores. Sin embargo, Mulan no desea seguir en el ejército, y pide sólo un burro para volver al hogar paterno. Cuando sus antiguos compañeros del ejército acuden a visitarla, quedan impactados al verla vestida como una mujer. El poema termina con la imagen de una liebre hembra (Mulan) y una liebre macho (sus compañeros) corriendo juntos, y el narrador preguntando si alguien sería capaz de distinguirlas.

El período en el que transcurre la historia es incierto. Los primeros testimonios de la leyenda afirman que vivió durante la dinastía Wei del Norte (北魏 Běi Wèi, 386-534). Sin embargo, otra versión sostiene que Mulan fue solicitada como concubina por el Emperador Sui Yangdi (quien reinó entre 604 y 617). Algunas evidencias del poema apuntan a la primera interpretación. Al Emperador ("Hijo del Cielo") se le llama también como "Khan" (可汗), título utilizado por los gobernantes descendientes de la nación altaica Xianbei, en la antigua China. Los gobernantes de la dinastía Wei del Norte eran de etnia Xianbei. Por otra parte, la referencia al "Khan" podría reflejar la fecha de composición del poema, y no la época en que suceden los hechos.

La leyenda de Mulan es increiblemente similar a la historia de la emperatriz Fu Hao, esposa del emperador Wu Ding de la Dinastía Shang, esta emperatriz llegó a ser general de los ejércitos chinos, así como la líder militar más poderosa de su tiempo.
